What is “Useful Map for Foreign Residents”?
“Useful Map for Foreign Residents” is useful information provided by Nishiyama Chizai Co., Ltd. for foreigners living in Japan who work in Japan. We mainly list institutions that are essential and useful for foreigners to work and live in Japan, such as government offices, Gyoseishoshis who support residence applications, specified skill registration support organizations, and medical institutions.
Foreign resident statistics
The “Useful Map for Foreign Residents” displays the number of foreign residents by municipality. The number of foreign nationals is increasing nationwide due to changes in immigration policy (increasing the number of foreign nationals accepted based on status of residence: specific skilled workers, etc.) due to the declining birthrate and aging population. In order to visualize this, we used a graph to show a comparison from the previous year. (For example, the percentage of foreign residents in Ota Ward increased by 0.36 points from 3.3% to 3.66% in just one year.) | |
In line with the latest data on foreign resident statistics being updated as of December 2023, changes for the past five terms are now displayed on a semi-annual basis. (Similar to the above, the example on the left is from Ota Ward, Tokyo.) |
The highest percentage of foreigners is “Shimukappu Village, Hokkaido”
As of December 2023, the municipality with the highest ratio of foreign residents to total residents is Shimukappu Village, Hokkaido. The number of foreign residents is 569, accounting for 40.8% of all residents, and in fact, just over 4 out of 10 people are foreigners. The reason why there are so many foreign residents is probably the strong driving force of foreign employment driven by foreign capital, Hoshino Resort Tomamu, a comprehensive resort company in Shimukappu Village. |
The highest rate of change from the previous year was “Akaigawa Village, Hokkaido”
In terms of percentage change (increase in points) from the previous year, the No. 1 municipality in Japan was Akaigawa Village in Hokkaido. (Shimukappu Village ranks 2nd in the nation) Just as there is Tomamu Resort in Shimukappu Village, there is Kiroro Resort in Akaigawa Village. |
