Changes from the previous year
 | The number of foreign nationals is increasing nationwide due to changes in immigration policy (increasing the number of foreign nationals accepted based on status of residence: specific skills, etc.) because of the declining birthrate and aging population. In order to visualize this, we have created a graph showing a comparison from the previous year. The currently supported local governments are cities, special wards, and cities throughout Japan (Towns and villages will be added in the future), and the language is Japanese only.
The total population above is obtained from census data every five years, (the total population is fixed in both years), so please use the percentage of foreign residents as a guideline only.
The increasing trend of foreign residents will continue. I think this will help Japanese nationals to realize more of the urgent issue of coexistence with foreigners.
